No. 9 Ohio State earned its first ranked win of the season Saturday afternoon, edging No. 11 Georgetown 10–9 in a tightly contested battle at Cooper Field in Washington, D.C.
The Buckeyes improved to 6–0 with the victory, while Georgetown dropped to 1–2 in its home opener in front of 1,789 fans.
Defense controlled much of the early action. Georgetown struck first late in the opening quarter when Jack Schubert finished a feed from Jake Bickel with 4:34 remaining. Rory Connor added another goal in the final two minutes of the quarter to give the Hoyas a 2–0 lead after the first.
Ohio State responded in the second quarter with a defensive stand, holding Georgetown scoreless while putting together a three-goal run. Alex Marinier scored twice during the stretch and Jackson Walsh added a man-up goal as the Buckeyes carried a 3–2 lead into halftime.
The Buckeyes extended their run early in the third quarter when Brad Sharp scored just 40 seconds after the break to make it 4–2. Georgetown answered quickly, however, with Jack Ransom and Natty Mason scoring within a minute of each other to tie the game.
The back-and-forth continued as Ohio State regained control with goals from Cullen Brown and Garrett Haas, but the Hoyas responded with a three-goal run late in the quarter. Connor scored twice during that stretch and Bickel added another to give Georgetown a 7–6 lead with just over a minute left in the third.
Ohio State responded in the closing seconds of the period when Sharp quick-sticked a goal with four seconds remaining, sending the game into the fourth quarter tied 7–7.
Both teams traded punches throughout the final frame. Ohio State scored twice early before Georgetown answered with two goals of its own, knotting the game 9–9 with under six minutes remaining.

Haas finished with three goals and one assist to lead Ohio State offensively, while Marinier and Sharp each added two goals. Marinier also reached a milestone during the game, recording his 100th career point.
Fyock anchored the Buckeyes defensively with 11 saves, and Ohio State’s defense caused nine turnovers, with Fyock, Jonny Cool, and Kyle Foster each recording two.
For Georgetown, Connor paced the offense with four points (3G, 1A), while Bickel added two goals and an assist and Ransom scored twice. Moore finished with 13 saves in goal, and Hayden Cody went 11-for-20 at the faceoff X while collecting eight ground balls.
